A career devoted to understanding people

Dr Ulrika Phillips is a counselling psychologist in private practice, working with adults, adolescents, children, couples and families. Her practice is grounded in one simple conviction: that every person deserves to be genuinely heard — and that with the right support, people have a remarkable capacity for growth and healing.

Over the course of her career, Dr Phillips has worked across private practice, school and community settings. This breadth of experience informs a practical, grounded style of therapy: warm and non-judgemental, yet always anchored in sound psychological science. She has particular experience in behavioural assessment and in preparing professional psychological reports for schools, employers, attorneys and multidisciplinary teams.

Clients often describe her consulting room as the one hour in the week where they can put everything down. Whether you are seeking therapy for yourself, support for your child, help for your relationship, or a formal assessment and report, you can expect the same care, discretion and professionalism.

“My role is not to hand out answers, but to help you find your own — and to walk beside you while you do.”

Therapeutic approach

How I work

Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Dr Phillips works integratively, drawing on several evidence-based modalities and tailoring the approach to each client’s needs, personality and goals.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Practical, structured work on the patterns of thought and behaviour that keep anxiety, depression and stress in place.

Person-Centred Therapy

A warm, non-directive foundation built on empathy and unconditional positive regard — you set the pace and the agenda.

Trauma-Informed Care

Safety-first work with trauma and loss, paced carefully so that processing never overwhelms — grounded in current trauma research.

Play & Expressive Techniques

Age-appropriate methods that help children and adolescents express what they can’t yet put into words.

Values

What you can count on

These commitments shape every session, every assessment and every report that leaves the practice.

  • Confidentiality. What is shared in the room stays in the room, within the ethical and legal limits explained at your first session.
  • Respect and dignity. Every client is met without judgement, whatever their background, beliefs or circumstances.
  • Evidence-based practice. Methods are drawn from current psychological research and applied with clinical judgement.
  • Ethical reporting. Assessments and reports are objective, fair and prepared strictly within HPCSA professional guidelines.
  • Collaboration. Where appropriate — and always with consent — Dr Phillips works alongside GPs, psychiatrists, schools and other professionals in your support network.

Let’s find a way forward, together

Sessions are available in person and online, in English and Afrikaans.
